For many people in this new digital age, cosmetic surgery is an important choice in their overall vision and appearance. The procedure, known as Juvéderm Voluma, helps restore volume that is lost from aging.

But really, what is Voluma?

Voluma is the process of injecting a gel into the cheek area to gently lift the skin and restore volume that is lost from aging.

Approved by y the FDA in December 2013, it is the first filler to claim it can “temporarily correct age-related volume loss in the cheek area of adults over the age of 21. In other words, Voluma is the best anti-aging technique you want to use and you can start using it as soon as you become a "legal drinker."

This is possible because it is made from something called hyaluronic acid, which is a natural complex sugar that occurs within our bodies, proven to restore age-related volume loss in the cheeks and cheekbones.

As we age, I know, we all do because we are exposed to oxygen, a combination of fat and bone absorption causes our skin to sag and a hollowing of the cheeks to develop. Voluma works to temporarily restore the effects of aging and provide a younger, tighter appearance where applied, according to Dr. Patel.

Voluma treats the root problem of mid-face aging changes and improves the appearance, convexity, and contour of the area. If you are too lazy to return for frequent refills, you would be happy to know that Voluma can last for up to two years.

What makes Juvederm Voluma different from other dermal fillers?

Like other fillers, Voluma is made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the skin. While most fillers are injected into the nasolabial folds, like laugh lines, Voluma goes deeper and is applied to the top of cheekbones. This allows physicians to reverse signs of aging by lifting the face.

Similar to other fillers, Voluma has a few side effects, which include tenderness, bruising, and swelling; all of which clear up within a week of treatment.
